Project Team: Claire Ward, Philip Stejskal Client: Carly Simpkins & Matthew Harper Builder: Capozzi Constructions Building Photography: Jack Lovel Model Photography: PSA A project comprising a further addition to a previously extended home, with the aim of accommodating all sleeping quarters upstairs, freeing up the ground floor for relaxed and communal living. The previous extension (early 00s) added a living and kitchen to the rear of an early 1900's masonry cottage, with a new master bedroom suite on top. Our role was to add the kids' bedrooms atop a new enclosed garage, all within the rigid height limitations of the area, which stipulated a maximum 4m wall height facing the street. The result was a stepped plan for the new bedroom insertion, along with a heavily chamfered roof form to come within the permissible envelope. The kitchen extension echoes the formal language of the bedroom addition. Both additions present to the existing garden with a timber facade. The challenge of this project was to create a new addition that would be legible as such, yet work in with the eclectic nature of prior works somewhat amiably. |
